Eggs

What makes our eggs different from the grocers ?

From the first day our chickens hatched.
They started out on a life that would obtain them certified organic status. Although we are not currently certified.
They did not have any supplements to water or food that would not be qualified as organic.
Even the food the chicks started on was trucked in by FEDEX from Tennessee because it is certified organic feed.(at about 9 times the cost of the best local feed.)
Picture Compliments of Karen House

There were NO suppliers in the entire state of Alabama that had (that I could find after extensive research and many calls !) a "true organic" feed.
There are a few grain mills that had a mix that had organics in it, but still the base which is corn was not organic. The mills work hard and did the best with the grain that was available to them, But for me it was not enough! I wanted certified organic. No pesticides, no herbicides, no weed killer in my feed!

Why organic corn? Corn has the tendency to be heavily treated with chemicals in the form of hebicides and pesticides. Most are GMO corns "genetically modified" which already have herbicides in the seed.
As the corn grows herbicides are released from the corn, which means no spraying for the farmers, but what about for you and me?
I personally do not want weed killer in my digestive tract or my body!
I have read studies that state that the heat of digestion actually reactivates the herbicides in the digestive system! (When I find the article I will post a link to it here.)
For those fighting cancer or disease, chemicals are not our friends!!

Luv Those carrots Mom! 8)

My girls currently range free on open mountain pasture and are supplemented with organic bunny- luv carrots ground for them to be able to eat and digest easily. There are also a lot of certified organic greens, veggies, and fruits. SUch as romaine, kale, spinach, collards, apples pears bananas … and sprouted and non sprouted flax seed that we purchase regularly for our girls to eat.
(Yes , they are spoiled!)
The girls also receive "treats" in the form of whole wheat supplements.

We try to encourage free range forage, even during winter and supplement with as many veggies as possible.
For those Not fighting cancer or diseases this may not be of much concern, but for those hunting for life giving food it is!

We do not stop there!
We supply fresh Reverse Osmosis Water in watering jugs inside the coop, where the nest boxes are located.
Also in the pasture we provide the girls with both Reverse Osmosis and Fresh Mountain Rain water to drink.

We also have an open door policy on the coop, which is just basically that the door stays open for the girls to come and go as they please .To come in and eat veggies and treats, and lay eggs and go back outside and get fresh air and exercise all day and all night up until time to roost.
Even at roost they are allowed to choose the local trees or the coop for shelter and safety.

Our chickens and eggs are different, because I determined from the beginning that these girls would lay the best eggs I could provide to my own family and to my customers!
SO that's it we spoil our chickens and eat our own eggs! And they are good wholesome eggs that taste Great!
